Yesterday, Saturday, August 8th, a group of CrossFit Unscathed athletes headed out to San Diego to compete in the Battle at the Barracks competition at CrossFit Barracks.
This was the first time that our CrossFit Unscathed community has been represented in a competition and let me just say, seeing that purple and teal CrossFit Unscathed logo be represented in EVERY division and in almost every heat, with each athlete who wore it pouring out their hearts as they competed, and even more so as they genuinely supported each other, was probably one of the coolest experiences I have had in competition. It was a great experience and I truly appreciate each one of you who leaped at the opportunity to represent CrossFit Unscathed and our community, and for doing so in amazing fashion!
Division 3 was represented by Ana and Miriam taking 9th place and 10th place, respectively, out of 27 women.
Division 2 was represented, on the men’s side, by Jose who took 26th out of 35 men, and, on the women’s side by Genna, Sonia, Nicole and Danielle who placed 1st, 2nd, 6th and 12th, respectively, out of 23 women, taking TWO podium finishes home in that division.
You guys all did so well and it was a blast cheering you guys on and competing alongside you! Along with our competitors, we also had a big group come out to support! Thank you so much to all of you for taking time out of your weekend to be there and cheer us all on! Andre, Cindy, Brad, Walter, Gabby, Elijah, Jerry, Veronica, Briseida, Jayme, and Phil you guys were great to have there to help and support all of us!
I feel like from the day Genna and I opened CrossFit Unscathed, we’ve had an absolutely amazing community, and as we’ve grown it has only flourished; and I believe the experience that we all had yesterday was a beautiful reminder of how truly amazing our community is, and the power that it has to inspire others to be great!
When Genna and I found out that CrossFit Barracks was going to host this local competition, we knew that we wanted our gym and our community to be represented and that we wanted to make an impression on this area, letting people know who WE (as a community) are and what WE are all about. And-although I personally absolutely love competing, and love seeing where I stack up amongst the best-competition, to me, is much more than that, and in regards to CrossFit Unscathed, standings and placements are absolutely secondary to who we are as people and how we carry ourselves out in the community. However, I believe that yesterday, through our whole-hearted commitment to each other and the selfless support of one another, we achieved greatness on all levels.
Although this was an individual competition, from deciding to compete, to collaborating about when to test workouts, how to strategize, what to wear, who was carpooling with who, setting up our tents, and supporting each other, to the willingness of sacrificing properly warming up and cooling down between workouts, this entire event was an absolute team effort. And I truly believe it was because our commUNITY is so strong and built around such amazing people.
I had an owner of another gym come up to me very early in the competition and say, “You are building a GREAT community!” I was completely humbled yet overjoyed to hear him say this, but it is no surprise to me that others see this community as GREAT! And not based on what we achieve, but by how we carry ourselves and how WE represent! That is a true testament to ALL OF YOU!
Whether you were there or not, competing, supporting, or just getting updates and cheering us on from home, if you are apart of this community, know that you are GREAT and there is power in who you are and the influence you have on the people around you! Thank you for representing the CrossFit Unscathed community so well. And know that I do not AT ALL take lightly the fact that I represent something much greater than myself when I represent CrossFit Unscathed! Thank you for doing the same!
Here’s to an AMAZING community, built from AMAZING people, and the AMAZING impact we have on each other and those around us!
AND I LOVE IT!!!
